Create a blog - Lesson 1

Welcome. If this if the first time you've created a blog, I think you will be surprised at how easy it is.

We are going to set up a blog with blogger.com.
Go to:
http://www.blogger.com/start

There are three steps to set up an account:
1. Create a Google Account
2. Name Your blog
3. Choose a Template

1. CREATE A GOOGLE ACCOUNT
Chick on the orange arrow that says "CREATE YOUR BLOG NOW"
(If you already have a google account, log in. You will be directed to the 2nd step)

a. Add your email address
b. Type it in again in the next box.
c. Create password; make it a strong password. See popup window called "Password Strength" on what this means.
d. Create a display name. It can by anything; mine is "bslavinb"
e. Do to word verification entry. Blogger does this to prevent automatic programs from creating blogs.
Click "I accept terms of service" and click on the orange "CONTINUE" arrow.

STOP Without closing the broswser window you are working on, open up your email account in another browser. Check your email inbox for mail from Google with a subject heading of "Google Email Verification". Click on the link within the body of your message as instructed in the Google message. Your Google account has been set up. Close email.

RETURN to browser where you are creating a blog and continue.

After you click the "CONTINUE" arrow you now have the page called:

2. NAME YOUR BLOG

Create a title for your blog. It can be anything: 5 things, so on.

Next create a blog address. This is where you might find that you have to hunt for a name not taken. For example, “fivethings” is taken, but fivethings (plus your name) is probably not taken. Chick on “check on availability. If it’s available, continue.

Do the word verification input

Skip the advanced options links.

Click on the orange CONTINUE arrow.

3. CHOOSE YOUR TEMPLATE

This is the fun part. Play around and choose a template. You can change templates as often as you like after the blog is created.

Click on the orange CONTINUE arrow

Voila! Your blog has been created!

Click on the START BLOGGING orange arrow.

Please title your first blog “Assignment 1”

And type in anything you like in the body of the blog.

Click on the orange rectangle “PUBLISH POST”

You will get a message that your blog post has published.

Chick on “View Blog”

Click on the URL in the address box of your browser and copy the full url address of your blog , for example: http://fivethingsmelvilledewey.blogspot.com/ (not a real blog).

Go to the comment section of this blog post, Lession 1 and send me the URL of your blog. You now have a Google ID, so so it's easy to log in an leave a comment

You’ll be done for week 1.

You’ll get an email back from me, with the status of your progress.

In the meantime, I hope you'll spend a little time exploring the blog's features on your own.

Congratulations.
